The Leeds Music History Project was born, like most of the best ideas from Leeds, out of a conversation in a pub after a gig. Leeds has a long history of great music – great venues, great bands, and great gigs, and we are a group of people who are passionate about the music of Leeds and want to make some noise about it.
Our first venture is to put on an exhibition in the Crypt at the Leeds Town Hall that will showcase a collection of memorabilia, posters and records from the Leeds music scene over the last 40 years. True to the DIY culture of the creative scene in Leeds, this exhibition has been pulled together by the energy and enthusiasm of a group of volunteers, and all the items in it have been loaned to us by bands and their fans.
The exhibition will open for a special preview on Thursday 11th August at 5pm, and will be open to the public from 9am until 5pm, Monday to Saturday, from Friday 12th August to Saturday 27th August.
